Church School

All children infant through grade 6 are invited to participate in our educational ministry program! Church School begins at 11:15 AM and ends at noon. Our volunteer teachers are church members and long-time friends. Newcomers are always welcome to assist as needed and parents are always welcome in the classroom. You will find the Youth Protection Policy below.

The 2011-2012 program year begins September 18, 2011 and concludes May 20, 2012. A calendar is found below.
At North Church we are committed to intergenerational worship and families are encouraged to worship together at the 10:00 AM Service which includes children’s time. Professional Nursery Care is available during the worship hour for infants and young children.

Our Wee Worshipers, infants to 3 years, are offered a simple story, introduction to ritual, perhaps a craft and playtime!

Preschool and Kindergarten children is guided by HeartShaper Curriculum published by Standard Publishing. HeartShaper engages children in interactive Bible learning while providing the necessary flexibility for teachers of these age groups.

The Feasting on the Word Curriculum for grades 1 through 6 has been introduced this year. This is a new lectionary curriculum published by Westminster John Knox therefore children who attend church as well as church school will be hearing and interacting with the same Scripture.

Youth Protection Policy
North Church of Portsmouth, UCC is committed to creating a safe and healthy environment in which young people can learn about and experience God’s love. In order to ensure this, we expect all people applying to be volunteers who work with children will have been members for at least six months or friends of North Church for one year. It is the policy of the church to provide adequate supervision for all activities involving children and youth. We also expect all employees or volunteers who work with children to complete and submit a disclosure document followed by an interview with the Church School Superintendent. Any allegation will be reviewed and responded to immediately and appropriately.
