Frank Newsome | Pastor

Frank Newsome is beginning his first year as Senior Pastor of North Church.  Prior to coming to Portsmouth, he served as Pastor of First Congregational Church on the Green, Norwalk, CT, and numerous churches in NC as Minister to Youth, Minister of Faith Formation, and Associate Pastor.  Frank has also served churches in NY and NJ.  He has an ecumenical background having held staff positions in both Baptist and United Methodist churches before serving in the United Church of Christ.  His journey in church work has been rich in diversity and has broadened his ministry experience, for which he is most grateful.

Frank loves to read, walk and chill at the beach, listen to music, hike in the mountains, play tennis, follow college basketball, vacation with family, and hang out with River, his 5 year old Golden Retriever.  He and wife Jill have three children and one granddaughter, with another grandchild due in November.  Brooke and her husband Edgar reside in Tacoma, WA with Lily, their 2 1/2 year old preschooler.  Jill and Frank’s son Page lives in Raleigh, NC and is a Band Director at East Wake High School.  Amie is in her sophomore year at Furman University…Go Paladins!

Jill also has a seminary degree with a Masters in Sacred Music and has served in many churches alongside of Frank as Minister of Music and as Director of Worship and Arts.  She has conducted choirs and instrumental ensembles, involving members in various aspects of worship, the arts and faith expression.  Jill has also spent her career working in preschools and teaching Kindermusik to families with newborns to age 7.  This work has kept her connected to the community at large, which she has loved.

Nathan Amsden | Director of Music Ministry

Nathan Amsden, our organist since 2006, became the Director of Music Ministry in 2008.  Nathan brings a strong piano/organ performance background, his Bachelor of Music from UNH, his Masters from Lesley University, and a wide variety of experiences in the music field to the organ bench and choir loft.  After several musical tours in Europe with wind ensembles, choirs, and jazz bands, he taught K-12 music for 13 years.  His vocal arrangements and compositions reflect his passion for all types of music.

Brenda Delfino | Church School Superintendent

Brenda Delfino began her role as Church School Superintendent of North Church of Portsmouth, UCC on October 3, 2010.  She is a mother of one daughter and has been a church school teacher here for 23+ years, while also filling positions on the Parish Life Board and the Board of Deacons.   In 1983 she received her Associates degree from McIntosh College in Dover, New Hampshire and has worked for New Hampshire law firms and title companies since that time.  She cherishes each moment she is able to spend with her family, especially her granddaughter.  Her greatest pleasures include her granddaughter, Evelyn, finding that quiet, special place to grow closer to God, and sharing her faith with others, especially our youth.

Paula Schena | Administrative Assistant

Paula Schena began working for North Church in August 2017. She has an Associate’s Degree from North Shore Community College and has spent the last 24 years working as the Executive Assistant/Office Manager to the Town Manager and Board of Selectmen of a municipality. Paula is enjoying semi-retirement and thankful for the opportunity to spend more time with her daughter, son and grandson.

Paul Gobbi | Custodian

Paul Gobbi has been the North Church Custodian since 2004.  In his 30 hour work week he cares for both the Market Square Sanctuary and the Parish House on Spinney Road.  Paul will offer a friendly greeting and is willing to assist in any of the varied and sundry tasks that come along!  He enjoys time with his wife, son and daughter.
